I have lived in Southwark, London 34 years - where Simon Hughes Lib Dem leading light is MP for the Bermondsey part - and have been active on housing matters.
I want to warn people that there is nothing fresh new or honest about the LibDems. THEY ARE THE OPPOSITE.
They hold onto power in Southwark Council against Labour by a DEAL WITH THE TORIES who came a poor third in the Council elections.
The key to their deal was to put Tory Banker Kim Humphries in charge of Housing who then proceeded to destroy and privatise as much Council housing as possible in a massive anti-democratic Social Cleansing operation in Walworth.
SO MUCH FOR NOT DOING DEALS WITH 3rd-placers!
SO MUCH FOR TELLING BANKERS WHAT TO DO!
They destroyed the Heygate Estate at Elephant without building any Council re-houisng - breaking all promises on this.
SO MUCH FOR TENANTS & RESIDENTS RIGHTS!
They RIPPED UP A 73% Tenants & Leaseholders MAJORITY AGAINST THE PRIVATISATION-DEMOLITION of the Aylesbury estate and ordered demolition and refused to hold another ballot.
SO MUCH FOR ACCOUNTABILITY & DEMOCARCY!
In Reality the LebDems are a dishonest treacherous cover for the worst of the Tories.

# The Lib-Dems are for a ban on strikes and compulsory arbitration of
disputes in the public services. The Tories are only toying with that
idea.
# The "Orange Book", the manifesto of the Lib-Dem right-wing which now
controls the Lib-Dem leadership in the persons of Nick Clegg and Vince
Cable, calls for scrapping the National Health Service and replacing
it by "social insurance" on the model of many European countries - a
much more "market-oriented" system, and one where erosion of the
principle of health care as a free public service is much easier and
quicker.

# The Lib-Dems cite Canada's Liberal government of 1993-8 - the
nearest equivalent in Canadian history to Thatcherism - as their model
of how to deal with a budget crisis.
